Allied Sinterings’ Custom Molding & Finishing Services

Powder metallurgy is a cost-effective and versatile manufacturing option for many types of parts. Allied Sinterings’ team of experts works with your custom designs, ensuring part function and design intent. We use computerized modeling for in-house mold and tool making, and achieve parts with high precision and tolerances of +/- 0.001 in. Part dimension capabilities are up to 1.25 in. OD (outer diameter) and 1 in. height.

The powdered metals we have available are copper, stainless steel, aluminum, bronze, carbon steel, titanium, and other specialty alloys, such as tungsten. They are pressed into molds and can be impregnated with special lubricants, and are then sintered to create the final part, ready for finishing.

Custom Molding

Custom molding is available for standalone components or parts of a larger custom assembly or sub-assembly. We can accommodate both low-volume mechanical assembly projects and high-volume production needs, with the ability to produce over 50 million units each year, as well as just-in-time production scheduling. Molding services include:

  • Precise, computer-designed molds and tooling based on your part and assembly drawings
  • Automated production equipment for efficient and precise high-volume manufacturing
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and the highest quality control standards to meet industry and customer requirements

Finishing

Finishing powdered metal components with vibratory tumblingWe offer a range of finishing and secondary services for completed parts including:

  • Heat Treating
  • Plating and Coating
  • Drilling and Tapping
  • Vibratory Tumbling
  • Milling
  • Reaming
  • Oil Impregnation
  • Low-Volume Precision Assembly

Depending on the particular characteristics you need your parts to have, we can provide finishing services that enhance strength and hardness, durability, corrosion resistance, surface wear resistance, and more. Machining options speed assembly and improve your time to market or distribution. These finishing options are customizable to meet your requirements.

Benefits of Our Molding & Finishing Services for Small Powdered Metal Parts

Our comprehensive custom molding and finishing services offer customers several benefits including:

Improved Appearance

Finishing improves the appearance of molded parts and creates a smooth finish by using electropolishing, deburring, plating, polishing, and buffing. This also improves part fit and function within assemblies and equipment. Several surface options are available including matte, textured, or high-gloss.

Enhanced Corrosion Resistance

Many metals are vulnerable to corrosion, which reduces their useful life and that of the equipment they belong to. Coatings and plating add a layer of protection for parts used in outdoor or marine settings, or environments with exposure to moisture and chemicals. They can also minimize the occurrence and effects of scratches and abrasions.

Self-Lubrication

If desired, parts can be impregnated with oil to improve their lubricity. After sintering, the pores in finished parts are filled with specialized lubricants, which are then released as heat is generated when the part is in use. This helps reduce surface-level friction between components, and improves wear and rust resistance to extend useful life. Allied Sinterings uses Krytox, a high-performance lubricant, for long-lasting lubrication. We also have a variety of customized oils for specific applications.

Protective Coatings

The right coating can result in a longer-lasting metal part. We offer these durable options:

  • Teflon Coating
  • Electrolytic Nickel or Zinc Plating

Applications of Molding & Finishing Services for Powdered Metal Parts

Powdered metal parts are durable, cost-effective options used across major industries for gears, jet and vehicle engine components, motorized components, tool parts, cams, magnetic components, grinding wheels, and more. Allied Sinterings is proud to serve the following industries:
